Eastchester continues to work, hopes for postseason berth PDF Print E-mail

Of all the contests the Eastchester lacrosse team has played this year, the waiting game may be the toughest of all. With the sectional seeding meeting scheduled for Wednesday night (after press time) and the team’s regular season finished, the 6-10 Eagles can only hope that good fortune smiles and there will be another game to play this year. But until the team knows for sure, it’s business as usual.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen,” said coach Larry Pettricione on Monday night. “Right now, we’re just approaching this like it’s our preseason: working hard on reviewing what we have to do and taking care of our own backyard.”

For the Eagles, much of that means watching recent game films to key in on what has – and hasn’t – been working for the club. The team finished up the season with a win and two straight losses, but Pettricione feels that there were enough positives – especially in the team’s win over Mamaroneck – to show his players what they’re capable of should they play to their highest level. In that game, Tom Cirillo had nine goals and an assist, while goalie Joe Arcidiacono tallied 22 saves against a good offensive Tigers squad.

After several weeks of uncertainty, Eastchester Fire District officials said last week that the district has taken action to get back money overpaid to two retirees of the department.

At the May 10 meeting of the Eastchester Board of Fire Commissioners, Fire District Counsel John Pettinella said that the district had finally sent out letters to the two retirees seeking a repayment of the funds the district gave them in error as a part of the local supplement to their state retirement disability benefit.

History has no tears PDF Print E-mail

History has no emotions: it does not laugh, and it does not cry; it only tells it like it is. But there are times when history is full of clouds, and seeing the facts can sometimes be a bit murky. Memorial Day is no exception, with many stories and towns claiming to be the first. We know for a fact it was known as Decoration Day and it began sometime during the Civil War because people, mostly women’s groups, would decorate the graves of fallen soldiers killed during the war. With over 600,000 lost in battle, there must have been many groups both Union and Confederate totally independent of each other laying flowers on the graves of loved ones. Gen. John Logan made it official when his General Order No.
